I am going to thank Ronald Reagan (or ‘Raygun’, in Dead Kennedys parlance) for something.
Gasp.
While reading Wired‘s excellent coverage of the new Transformers movie, I learned something surprising. Without Ronnie’s 1983 deregulation of television advertising aimed at children, the original Transformers cartoon- essentially a half-hour toy commerical- would never have been possible.
So, thanks to Reagan, the Transformers were born, and an extended toy ad inexplicably became my moral centre. I will grudingly cede that this is possibly the only example of a conservative policy, in all of human history, to deliver a net benefit for human society.

I am a ball of conflicted emotions thanks to this post. However, I guess in the end I should remember that all sentient beings deserve to live… even dead presidents.
