This line had me and my friend confused for years til we figured it out. It is, in fact, “the orchid’s out.” Apparently, in some families, there is this tradition of having a Christmas orchid, some others have a pointsettia. Here’s a website describing it. Really obscure, though. Maybe the most obscure line in the whole Run-DMC calalogue:

I looked at a bunch of lyric sheets, and it was either Orchid or Orca. No matter how implausible the Orchids are, I have to think they’re more likely than killer whales.

I can’t help but think the line about orchids has been transcribed incorrectly. Granted, I’ve never spent Christmas in Hollis, but I somehow doubt orchids have anything to do with what “Christmas is all about.”
