So, I saw Cloverfield last night, and I’ve got to say I really enjoyed it. Except for the motion sickness. Movie shot entirely with handicam + steak dinner + front of the theatre = trouble in your tummy.
But yeah, good flick. It was a swift uppercut of a monster flick, a completely entertaining 90 minutes. It didn’t try to be anything it wasn’t, and delivered exactly what it promised. This, incidentally, is also why I liked Alien Vs. Predator, but I’ll happily grant the title of ‘better movie’ to Cloverfield. I’m not going to throw any spoilers in, so go see it.
Leading up to the film’s release, there have been all kinds of weird viral websites and promo gimmicks swirling around the interweb, creating a kind of fanboy/girl feeding frenzy. But for my money, the most interesting mystery of Cloverfield is the few seconds of static-y radio transmission at the end of the credits. At first, I thought it was just noise, but now it seems to be something a little more ominous:
So, what do you think? For my money, it sounds like “It’s still alive”. Cloverfield II, anyone?

Okay, that’s both creepy and cool. Sorry about all the screaming BTW.
I did not like this movie. I kept feeling like I was watching a REALLY horrible episode of Felicity. There was no arch in the storyline, there was no emotion from the characters (even Beth & Rob who we are SUPPOSED to care about). By the end, I could have cared less and was actually rooting for the demise of the city.
Just incredibly amateur. I was disapointed, but hey, I couldn’t have expected much from the creator of Lost, the most anti-climatic show on television.
Spend more money on a decent script and less on a viral marketing campaign. You need more than a revel of the “monster” to capture this movie-goers attention.
Cloverfield felt slow to get started but by the end I understood the necessary set-up in the beginning. For all the SassAFrasser’s out there who didn’t ‘get’ it I suggest you find peace within yourself first, adopt an animal (instead of killing them) and then go see it again.
You’ll like it. It’s a GREAT MOVIE. And, the message at the end is totally awesome and mysterious.
JJ Abrams has proven yet again that he can stay one step ahead of the audience rather than dumb them down like most films regardless of the genre.
LOST is a great show..but again it requires a patient intelligence to sit through it’s paced revealing of information. It’s not for everyone.
The only problem is in order to decode that message you had to record it in the theater and play it backward. Hmmm….not a good message to moviegoers, but hey, it’s still cool.
