pop snark
After weeks of fake (eerily accurate, but fake nonetheless) trailers, you can now watch the official Star Trek XI trailer at the official movie site.
Or, you can watch a bootleg right here. Whatever you like- I don’t judge. Well, I do. Frequently. But you’ll never know about it.

If you go to the site, be sure to click the red dot and get to what appears to be the San Francisco Shipyards.
Lame. I liked the fake one better.
I know it’s the vision of the producers and a new look at the Star Trek story, yadda, yadda, yadda, but I’m still irked that it’s not built in space.
I was looking into that, and apparently there’s a consensus among Trek writers that the best place to build warp nacelles is on Earth. Something to do with subspace fields acting like gravity wells.
Like so:

A friend mine offered the following comment, which I liked:
In Star Trek’s future, they have warp drive (enabling a ship to fly faster than the speed of light). They have phasers which are lazer guns. They have elminated societal racism on Planet Earth and all races, creeds, etc. work together on a five year mission to explore strange new places. Essentially, this is pretty amazing advancements in our society.
But how did the welding torches survive into the future?
