Alright, I was just kidding around about the song, but I do think we need another viewpoint here….I do not consider it sexism to make comments about someone’s looks, and I don’t consider what this mayor said to be over the top. Looks do matter.

Brad Pitt is better looking that I am. All other things equal, he and I go to the bar, he’s got a lot more options there than I do. Chris Farley (RIP, good sir) is less attractive than me, and I’d have more options than him. It’s just a simple fact. And yet, should there be no other guys there, both of us would likely do well for ourselves. How is stating that any different than what the mayor was saying? All it comes down to is “sure, you’re ugly, but here you’ll have men competing for you due to the ratio, whereas in the city you’re in now, it’s likely not happening like that.”

There is not a single one of you who can claim that looks don’t matter to you.

Australian men, especially in isolated and rural areas are notoriously sexist and abusive in the way they treat ‘sheilahs’. Perhaps the mayor could, were he not stymied by his own brand of sexism, investigate why women flee or avoid settling in his town.

That song pales in comparison to the fun contained in such other Fun Rock classics as Louie Louie, The Purple People Eater, Snoopy vs. The Red Baron which are offensive to no one, except maybe people named Louie, purple people, and Baron von Richtofen.
