The Globe and Mail catches Peter MacKay on a whopper today. Last month, MacKay told the House of Commons:
“We will not throw a member out of caucus for voting his conscience. There will be no whipping, flipping, hiring or firing on budget votes as we saw with the Liberal government.”
And what did MacKay's party do yesterday? Whipped, flipped and fired Nova Scotia MP Bill Casey out of caucus for daring to vote against Tory budget he felt would hurt his constituents. Oh, and Casey is also a 20 year parliamentary veteran.
MacKay and the Conservatives have managed to pull off a startling triple crown of idiocy here. They lied to parliament. They turfed a respected MP out of caucus for voting his conscience. And, to round it out, they hypocritically engaged in the same cynical caucus managment that they claim to despise. Well done, gentlemen.
Thanks to NH for the heads-up on this one.
