Thank you, Gipper

Gather 'round kids. This is a Nunc Scio first, and will never, ever happen again. I am going to thank Ronald Reagan (or 'Raygun', in Dead Kennedys parlance) for something.

While reading Wired's excellent coverage of the new Transformers movie, I learned something surprising. Without Ronnie's 1983 deregulation of television advertising aimed at children, the original Transformers cartoon- essentially a half-hour toy commerical- would never have been possible.

So, thanks to Reagan, the Transformers were born, and an extended toy ad inexplicably became my moral centre. I will grudingly cede that this is possibly the only example of a conservative policy, in all of human history, to deliver a net benefit for human society.

Until all are one.
