If you haven't read anything by George Saunders, you're missing out. His short stories are awesome, and his new book of essays, The Brain Dead Microphone, is the best non-fiction I've read this year. He manages to bring humanity back to discussions of hot-button issues like immigration, and makes a spot-on diagnosis of the stupidity plaguing our media system.
