McGill now Star Trek U

Many years ago, deep in the mists of a strange time known simply as '1992', the Students' Society of McGill University voted to re-name their student centre in honor of their most illustrious alumnus, the great William Shatner. Of course, the stuffy university admin didn't want to change the name, but students still refer to their building as the Shatner Centre. Now, they've gone one step further.

The SSMU has officially passed a motion to rename several other buldings at McGill in honour of Shatner and Star Trek. This is the actual text:

WHEREAS William Shatner was an actor on Star Trek and a former McGill student;

WHEREAS there is already a Shatner building;

WHEREAS this is insufficient proof of SSMU devotion to Shatner;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Student Society recognize the following buildings under the following names:

Redpath Library — Wrath of Khan Library

Leacock — Janeway Building of Women's Studies

Brown Student Services — Sick Bay

Bronfman — 6 of 9 Building

James Administration — Captain Jean-Luc Picard Administration Building

Ferrier — Worf Building

Wong — Geordi LaForge Chemical and Material Engineering Building

MacIntyre — Bones McCoy Medical Centre

Trottier — Sulu Electrical Engineering Building

Burnside — The Cube

 The students are also keen to recognize Shatner's vast contributions to contemporary music:

Motion re: 'Rocket Man'

WHEREAS William Shatner was an actor on Star Trek and a former McGill student;

WHEREAS it is common practice to recite allegiance to Queen and Country;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Student Society show its devotion to William Shatner by having the council recite "Rocket Man," by Elton John, set to music, Shatner-style.

Awesome. Of course, the admin probably won't accept these name changes either. Jerks. But next time I'm on the McGill campus, I'll make a point to stop in at the Wrath of Khan Library.
