Super black is the new black

OK. So I already took my shot against scientists doing pointless things today. So, here's something that may possibly be as stupid as a dog-bark detector, yet somehow way cooler: ultra black. The new substance absorbs about 30 times more light than the current black benchmark. Up until today, I didn't know we had a benchmark for black, but there you go. Ultra black only reflects about 0.045 per cent of light, while lame old black paint reflects between 5 and 10 per cent. Applications for the new material range from  clothes to stealth fighters.

All of this is great news, as I now have the potential to own a t-shirt almost as black as my soul. Thanks to io9 for this one.
