You can say a lot of nasty things about the military-industrial complex. And, you'd probably be right. But you can't deny that weapon makers have a spiritual genius for awesome acronyms. In that spirit, I give you the Surface-Launched Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile, or... SLAMRAAM!
That is the verbal equivalent of a Black Sabbath album. And, not surprisingly, there's a rock and roll video to go along with it:
Apparently, this program is massively overbudget, something to the tune of $623 million. To which I reply: you don't get this kind of wicked acronymage for free. The other big problem with the SLAMRAAM is that the name seems to contain a logical paradox. As MN pointed out in an IM:
"Surface-launched air-to-air missile? That doesn't even make any sense."
