Americans are all twitchy over the news that Anheuser-Busch, brewer of Budweiser, may be bought out by InBev, a *gasp* European brewing corporation. Apparently, they want to make Bud into an international premium brand. To which I say: have you ever actually had a Budwesier?
Patriots all over the USA are rallying to defend their beloved brew, and a petition to block the sale already has 32,000 signatures. A similarly themed Facebook group has about 11,700 members.
More power to them. But here's the thing. Belgians (the home nationality of InBev) make good beer. Budweiser tastes like lightly flavoured barley water. So perhaps it is time to put aside nationalism and let the Europeans improve the humble Bud. I mean, the USA saved their behinds in WWII, so it's the least they can do.
Then again, I'm the guy who lauched a petition to save the Hockey Night in Canada theme, so what the hell do I know?
