Oh, to live in a land blissfully (?) unaware of the trapezoidal contradictions they inhabit daily. China has announced plans to make Beijing the most wi-fi enabled city in the world by 2011. And, it will all be free.
Sounds great. Except, China is one of the more active states when it comes to censoring the Internet. So while all of Beijing's 17.4 million residents will have wi-fi access, you've got to wonder: what are they getting access to? The information wealth of the Internet, or a dim shadow promulgated by the apparatchiks in power?
I think Wordsworth wrote a poem about this. Something to effect of "water, water everywhere, without a drop to drink."
